Although the title sounds like an oxymoron because legal technicalities smack of out-of-this-world possibilities that only lawyers can imagine, there is really a lot of sense in these things that lawyers tell us. Note it’s the things that lawyers tell us to watch out for that makes sense. Lawyers, in themselves, do not necessarily make sense. All of this comes down to the old exhortations: Get a competent lawyer and buy with care!

Your investment in reputable and competent professionals – realtor and surveyor – is a necessary cost. After all, the whole deal hinges on property rights, and, in the case of real estate, you would want that piece of paper you’re holding to be authentic – from the Registry of Deeds; to evidence your ownership of property that exists – not somebody else’s property; and, one with a fully paid or assumable mortgage.
